After two years of working on the Eclipse Leisure Centre Project for our clients Willmott Dixon, the completion is now in sight, with the opening anticipated for this autumn.
Our client has been collaborating with Spelthorne Borough Council and GT3 Architects since 2022 to bring this project to life. The leisure centre is set to be one of the world’s most energy-efficient buildings, striving to meet the stringent Passivhaus standards, which ensure a 60% reduction in energy consumption compared to standard leisure centres in the UK. It will be the first of its kind in London and the largest in the country.
The new leisure centre is expected to be a valuable addition to the borough, providing significant benefits to local residents. The facility will feature a 25m main pool, a learner pool, a splash pad, and a spa. Additional sports facilities include a 6-court sports hall, three squash courts, 950 square meters of fitness space, two studios, a spin studio, and a multi-use room that can be adapted into an additional badminton court.
The Passivhaus standard is a proven approach to reducing energy consumption in buildings, facilitating the creation of net-zero-ready structures that are optimized for a decarbonised grid. Passivhaus buildings offer high levels of comfort for users and occupants while using minimal energy for heating and cooling. Passivhaus construction is well within the expertise of our client Willmott Dixon, who have worked on notable projects within this criteria such as Hackbridge Primary School, Harris Academy, and the School of Medicine at the University of Leicester.
Powerday has been thrilled to partner with Willmott Dixon on the Eclipse Leisure Centre, as the principles behind Passivhaus closely align with our own net-zero goals. We have provided skip exchange services and hazardous waste removal. To date, Powerday has collected a total of 772.45 tonnes of waste from the site, of which 79.81% was recycled, 20.19% was recovered as energy, and 0% was sent to landfill. We successfully recovered 20 different types of material, including Brick, Wooden packaging, and Plasterboard.
