Powerday’s Premiership Rugby Curtain Raiser

Powerday's Premiership Rugby Curtain Raiser

On Saturday 1st September Powerday hosted their annual London Double Header event with nearly 500 guests in attendance.

The day is now a regular feature in the rugby calendar and goes from strength to strength as it features a top day of rugby, an all day barbecue, drinks and plenty of craic!Wasps and Harlequins got the day off to a rousing start with Wasps charging to an unexpected but well deserved lead of 40 points to 13 with their flying wingers Varndell and Wade scoring terrific tries. However, the game changed dramatically in the second half and Harlequins, the Premiership Champions, showed their strength to come back to claim a dramatic 40-42 win.

Sadly for the thousands of London Irish fans both in the stadium and joining the Powerday event, the team struggled to find any form going down to Saracens 40-3 in a game which didn’t do justice to the skills either side have at their disposal.

However, the day was a great success for the Powerday party and the London Irish side very kindly joined the group, had photos taken and signed autographs for the fans, no doubt thinking already about the big reaction needed to overcome Gloucester at home this coming Saturday.

Mick Crossan, Chairman of Powerday, commented: “This event is one of our top social events of the year and I’m delighted so many of our friends were able to join us, sadly we didn’t get the win we would have liked as that would have rounded off a perfect day”.
