British Down Syndrome Swimming Championships 2025

The British Down Syndrome Swimming Championships 2025 concluded on Sunday 16th November after an unforgettable weekend at K2 Crawley, where more than 180 swimmers took to the pool, marking the event’s largest field to date.

Now in its fourth year, the Championships, organised by Down Syndrome Swimming Great Britain (DSS-GB), showcased the rapid growth and rising performance standards within Down syndrome swimming across the UK and beyond. With athletes returning year after year, the 2025 edition highlighted remarkable progression in ability, confidence, and competition experience.

This year’s Championships also cemented its status as one of Europe’s leading disability swimming events, welcoming international competitors from Canada, USA, New Zealand, Estonia, Egypt, Portugal, Hungary, Slovenia, Sweden and Japan. The global turnout contributed to an electric atmosphere, with hundreds of supporters filling the stands across both days.

As the only licensed national competition in the UK exclusively for swimmers with Trisomy 21 and Mosaic Down syndrome, the event once again offered athletes the chance to compete under official Swim England laws and register recognised times across 44 events, ranging from 25m sprints to the demanding 1500m.

Many of the swimmers who first joined the Championships in its early years returned stronger than ever, reflecting what is possible when athletes have access to structured training, inclusive club environments, and competitive opportunities. Several members of the DSS-GB squad, fresh from retaining their title at the European Down Syndrome Swimming Championships in Portugal – delivered standout performances across the weekend.
