Powerday, supported by the Metropolitan Police, hosted a safety event at Heathrow Airport designed to raise awareness of cycling safety.

The event which took place on 14th October is part of an ongoing programme where participants get to sit in a cab of a lorry or bus and see for themselves what the drivers can and can’t see around the vehicle.

Powerday provided the latest Crossrail Compliant RoRo vehicle fully fitted with cameras and sensors to FORS gold specification as well as the company’s new skip vehicle fitted with remote control skip lifting system. Bill Cox, Powerday’s Transport Manager who leads for Powerday on FORS and CLOCS compliance was on hand to demonstrate the operation of the vehicles and highlight the issues faced by both a driver and cyclist perspective.

The event took place outside Starlight Point at Heathrow Airport which houses the major contractors operating at the airport so representatives from Mace, Balfour Beatty, Ferrovial, Morgan Sindall and BAM Nuttall were able to see all the latest measures available to reduce accidents.

John Batteson, the Heathrow Contract Manager for Powerday, commented “I think the day was a huge success, with over 180 visitors attending. The feedback we’ve had is very positive and we are planning another event for the spring”.
