Powerday host Sustainability Roundtable event
Driving construction collaboration
Last month, we hosted a sustainability roundtable event for construction sector clients and other key stakeholders at Home House to facilitate and encourage collaboration on sustainability issues throughout the value chain.
This fascinating engagement event aimed to provide a forum to help address the environmental challenges of the construction industry and better understand the future role of waste management as building practices evolve.
The sustainability roundtable event looked at three key areas: how trends in building practices are changing waste management requirements, what support clients need in reporting and reducing Scope 3 carbon emissions, and how we can all better collaborate to move waste up the hierarchy and keep it in the circular economy.

Mick Crossan, Chairman, Powerday says: “Powerday has always worked to stay one step ahead in managing construction waste and supporting our clients. This sustainability roundtable event brought together a range of clients and partners across the industry to support their and our joint progress. I personally thoroughly enjoyed seeing old and new faces, and participating in such honest and fruitful discussions on how to help move our industry forward.”

After breakfast and a series of presentations from Powerday, our sustainability partners, Not Sustainable, led and facilitated discussions at a table level with findings then shared with the room.
Participants widely agreed that greater communication and collaboration were essential, not just between contractors but with policymakers and wider stakeholders. Many of those present shared their challenges with data and reporting needed to track progress, carbon emissions and circular economy initiatives.
Participants also shared a focus on waste reduction, reuse and closed loop recycling with barriers to success including challenges with waste identification and segregation, onsite storage limitations, and the financial cost of reuse compared to buying new.

Tara Crossan, Associate Director of Marketing, Powerday says: “We want to understand the future waste management requirements of our clients, how we can support them in tackling net zero and how we can collaborate further to achieve greater reuse and closed loop recycling.
Following the successful and informative sustainability roundtable event, we are now planning how best to continue our collaboration and industry engagement to help address the challenges we all face, share successes and learnings, and shape regulations and practices that will drive meaningful change and improve standards throughout our industry.”

This event will be the first of a series of client and stakeholder engagement events hosted by Powerday. You can read more about our company ambitions in our Sustainability Manifesto.
