Powerday Sponsors Walk4matt 2012
11th June 2012

Hikers could be seen walking alongside the canal recently to raise money for the Matt Hampson Foundation. Participants risked scorching weather conditions and the threat of blisters by walking a total of 110 miles over seven days for the worthy cause.
Powerday was proud sponsor of Walk4Matt 2012, the event took place along the canal towpath from Rugby to Twickenham from 18th to 25th May and raised over £15,000. The charity supports and helps young people that have been injured or disabled during sport. Matt Hampson himself was paralysed whilst training for the England rugby team in 2005.
Powerday has a long association with the canal. Powerday’s Materials Recycling Facility in Old Oak Sidings is located next to the Grand Union Canal with its own wharf and Managing Director Mark Bensted was previously Director of British Waterways in London for twenty years.
Mark Bensted said: ” Powerday is delighted to be involved with such an excellent cause, it was a pleasure to contribute. I commend everyone who took part and persevered through the extremely hot weather conditions!”
