POWERDAY’S ANNUAL SOCIAL VALUE CONTRIBUTION TOPS £11.4MILLION

Our latest social value report shows we delivered £11.4million last year through our core business and community support programmes.

Our latest social value report shows we delivered £11.4million last year through our core business and community support programmes.

We generate this extensive social value under each of our five sustainability pillars (our employees, community, clients, carbon management and procurement) with objectives published in our Sustainability Manifesto each year.  Our activities are aligned to five key UN Sustainable Development Goals to maximise our contribution to worldwide efforts to tackle economic, social and environmental challenges:

Our largest impact is towards decent work and economic growth, contributing £8.6million from employing 75% of our team from within 15 miles of our head office.  We also contributed £20.000 to goal 8 through career support and education sessions to help disadvantaged young Londoners into meaningful employment.

We delivered just under £2million towards responsible consumption and production through the diversion of 20,0000 tonnes of hard to recycle wastes from landfill.  We delivered £50,000 of value in climate action, using electric company cars and offsetting our wider fleet emissions.  Having recently set a net zero carbon target for Scopes 1 and 2, we expect to significantly increase our social value contribution towards goal 13 going forward.

Our strong commitment to supporting our local communities, and in particular improving health and wellbeing for disadvantaged young Londoners, saw us deliver £680,000 in value through charity and community projects and £40,000 in staff volunteering to support local community projects and initiatives.  We contributed a further £38,000 to goal 3 through employee mental health and wellbeing programmes.

For the first time, we also created social value towards gender equality, contributing over £10,000 through our participation in the ‘Women Into Construction’ gender diversity programme ‘Moving On Up’.  With plans to use this training to create an equality, diversity and inclusion strategy to tackle our biggest ED&I challenges, we also expect to contribute greater social value towards goal 5 in future.

Edward Crossan, CEO, Powerday says: “It remains hugely important to Powerday that we can and do play our part to protect our planet and improve the lives of those around us.  We are proud to have delivered increasing social value contributions every year since reporting with SVP and we very much plan to continue to do so.”

Powerday’s latest report covers the financial year August 2021 to July 2022.  We signed up to Social Value Portal in 2019 to secure independent verification of our social value contributions.  In the last three years of reporting, we have delivered over £31.5million in social value.  For every pound our clients spent with us in that period, £0.22 has contributed towards the wider community.
