Civic Amenity Site case study: Hillingdon Council
Working in partnership with Hillingdon Council, we operate their civic amenity (reuse and recycling) site that incorporates an on-site waste charity shop. The shop offers donated reusable items, such as furniture, appliances, and household goods, before they become waste, extending product life and supporting the circular economy. Items are then sold at low cost to the public, with all proceeds donated to Harlington Hospice. £90,000 raised for the hospice.
This initiative not only reduces landfill and promotes reuse, but also generates community value by funding hospice care services, linking environmental sustainability directly with social impact.
In March 2021, we unveiled Powerday’s first ever Sustainability and Wellness Manifesto. The report, demonstrates what we are currently doing to help our clients meet their sustainability targets. It also looks to the future and what we will be doing next.
Last year, we refreshed our sustainability strategy to reflect evolving client priorities, policy changes, and growing demand for measurable impact. It introduces four clear pillars, focusing our efforts where we can deliver the greatest value, supported by key themes and sub-pillars.
– Sustainable Growth
– Business Excellence
– Climate Resilience
– Empowering Communities
The update sharpens our focus and aligns sustainability with core business objectives, while meeting rising client and stakeholder expectations. It strengthens our ability to lead with purpose and remain resilient in a complex, fast changing regulatory environment.
By challenging ourselves in these areas, we will be able to further reduce the impact of our operations on the environment.
Community work
Powerday has enjoyed an excellent, long-standing relationship working with local authorities and councils through our extensive work in the community through our Foundation, as well as a wide range of services delivered in partnership with local boroughs.
In April 2026, Powerday Foundation launched an after-school intervention programme for hard-to-reach and excluded young people across Enfield, providing a safe and supportive space at Edmonton Eagles Boxing Club where participants can build confidence, discipline, and wellbeing through structured boxing sessions led by experienced local volunteer coaches.
Supported by a £2,000 donation and 18 pairs of boxing gloves, the programme combines boxing training with nutritional education as part of the Foundation’s Health and Wellbeing Pathway, helping young people develop positive habits and achieve participation awards while creating long-term opportunities for personal growth.
Pride in Place
We are currently working with Enfield Council as part of the UK Governmentʼs Pride in Place Programme, an initiative providing funding to around 250 areas across the country to support long-term improvements to public spaces and civic amenities.
Through this programme, Powerday is delivering works across six popular areas that are home to many local businesses. These include street washing, painting, and the refurbishment of street furniture, helping to enhance the look, feel, and usability of key community spaces.
