An ethos of giving back - Powerday in the community
At Powerday, as an independent family business, we have an ethos of ‘giving back’ installed by our Chairman and founder Mick Crossan and shared strongly by our Vice Chairman Edward Crossan.
We use our sustained growth to support our local communities. In particular, we believe strongly that the lives of disadvantaged young Londoners can be improved through sport and opportunity. Our work in the community is as important to our company as our waste management services and is focused on four areas - providing leading waste management services; providing secure and rewarding employment; improving lives through sport; and supporting communities.
The Social Value Portal
In 2019, we signed up to the Social Value Portal (SVP) which provides an online service by which we can measure our contribution to society. This nationally accepted framework uses the Themes, Outcomes and Measures (TOMs) framework which gives a financial value to social impact. Through the SVP, we have started producing annual social value reports in the latest step to formalise our structures and provide the best social value. This shows the true wider economic, social and environmental impacts of our day-to-day business and community work.
Our first report was a retrospective for the financial year August 2018 to July 2019. The Social Value Portal calculated that, in this period, we generated a total of £9.2m of social value with every pound our clients spent with us contributing £0.17 to the wider community.
