Making best use out of your wood waste

Powerday provides wood recycling services designed to make the best use of these materials. We ensure that waste wood is diverted from landfill and moved up the waste hierarchy with materials remaining in the UK.
We can provide storage and collection services for waste wood or materials can be tipped at our sites.
All wood waste is transported to our Materials Recycling Facilities in Willesden Junction or Enfield where it is separated from other materials and graded, using a combination of manual and machine processes.

We work with Community Wood Recycling to divert waste wood from clients’ sites into reuse where feasible. The network of wood recycling social enterprises not only reuse waste wood but create jobs, training, and volunteering opportunities for disadvantaged people.
In the 2021/22 financial year, we rescued 124 tonnes of wood waste, up 30% from the previous financial year with Community Wood Recycling. Of the 124 tonnes, 77.4 tonnes was reused, 3.3 tonnes used as firewood and 43.5 tonnes recycled, saving 62 tonnes of CO2e.
WOOD RECYCLING SERVICES
Clean grade A wood waste, that we are not able to divert for reuse, is chipped and made into a number of different recycled products including in the production of composite panel boards.
The remaining mixed grade wood is also chipped and used for biomass fuels. The majority of this goes to Ridham Docks biomass plant in Kent as part of a long-term contract with MVV Environment.
In 2021, the 14,600 tonnes of waste wood we delivered to MVV generated enough CO2-neutral electrical energy to power 4,258 homes and saved the emissions of more than 7,300 tonnes of CO2e.
Powerday is a member of the Wood Recyclers Association (WRA), the trade association for the waste wood recycling sector, to gain a better insight into the market, share best practice and drive progress in our industry.
